Bio.: My name is Darrell Farnsworth and I presently work in the corporate world but have been performing, producing and writing various forms of music for over 20 years.

I have traveled the world and was a Soldier in a past life, serving my country in the BRITISH ARMY, where I worked in the desert and jungle’s of the world. I also have a great love of nature and have dived with Sea lions off the coast of Baja California as well as tracked Spirit Bears and Grizzly bears in British Columbia. Many of my experiences in life have been inspiration for my music.

Also the name TRANSLUNAR comes from from long term fascination with SPACE TRAVEL, particularly manned SPACE TRAVEL and in my music I really try to convey the emotions one I assume would feel, at launch, walking in space(EVA) or any other type of human process whereas some is feeling an extraordinary emotion or fear or exultation or sadness. It is with my use of melody, drama and emotion I am trying to connect with the listener.

As well as my love of nature and my family my main focus in life is my music in which I am always trying to push my own artistic boundaries.

The instruments I play are Electric and Acoustic Guitar’s, synthesizers, soft synths using LOGIC Software via MAC computers and digital drums and electronic percussion.

My Review: “An accomplished composer, instrumentalist and singer, Translunar takes us on a journey through space, while at the same time treating us to some lighter pop music as well!”. This is how I would have to describe Translunar, Darrell Farnsworth. Darrell has the rare ability, that escapes so many composers today, to be able to to convey to the listener, thorough his music, his thoughts, his emotions and I’m sure his dreams as well.

“The Astronaut’s Dreams and Other Stories” depicts the Mercury era of our space flight history and man’s first venture into space. contains 9 tracks, and of course, most of these are space oriented. The EP opens with “Dancin with Angels” which is an upbeat piece that sets the tone for the EP. Next is “The Astronauts Wife” this track shows the pride that the astronauts wife has in what her husband is doing, but, at the same time has an underlying theme of the anxiety and fear that she feels, not knowing if her husband will return safely or not. This has an even greater meaning since the two space shuttle disasters. Than we come to a couple of the “Other Stories” in the title. First is “A Little Southern Comfort” where Translunar makes a complete switch to a country twang and entirely different style of music. Darrell shifts gears again with “War on TV”. While I’m sure Darrell wrote this about the war in Iraq, it could just of easily apply to The Viet Nam War which was going on during man’s first space flights. War is never a pretty sight and this song could apply to any war throughout history or any future wars. We go back into space with the next track, “First Time in Orbit” where Darrell conveys the mystery, awe and yes, even some fear of orbiting the earth for the first time. These are the tracks I have chosen from “The Astronauts Dreams and Other Stories” to play for you in this review.

Since this review, Translunar has written numerous other tracks related to space travel. One I found especially appealing was “The Astral Navigator” which depicts a space traveler of the future. This track so impressed me that I took the time to assemble a video for it which you will see at the end of this review.

Three of his most recent tracks, and which I have included in the music player are “The Mad King” , “MOOG Music” which takes us back to the early days of the music synthesizer, when it was played mainly by it’s creator and a few others and you could not simply walk into your local music store and say you wanted to buy a synthesizer! They simply weren’t available to the public! Darrell’s latest work is “The Mercenaries of Mars” set in the 23 century, when paid men of war must now travel the galaxy to find “work”.

I find it difficult to find the proper words to fully express my admiration for Darrell. Darrell is a dreamer, no a visionary, who, through his music is able to convey his love of and passion for space travel to the listener. In his non-space related music we also catch a glimpse of Darrell’s very soul. This is a rare ability for any composer and artist.

Professionally speaking, Darrell’s music would be perfect for anyone making a Si-Fi Movie a documentary on space travel. I’s also great music to sit and relax too as well. Let Translunar take you on a space voyage without leaving your living room! His MOOG Music and some of his other works bring back some great memories, at least to me!

It is my fervent hope that God grant Darrell a long enough life so that one day he is able to board a “space plane” as easily as we board an airliner today and that he may “Dance with the Angels” in that great, vast and mysterious realm we call “outer space”.

I rate “The Astronaut’s Dreams and other Stories” EP and the other tracks by gifted composer, instrumentalist, singer and visionary Translunar, Darrell Farnsworth, 10 stars and a “thumbs up”! If I had a higher rating, I would certainly award it to Darrell! May your dreams come true, my friend!
