Bio.: This is the part where Trishna spills her life story! Nah just playin, but really, it all started when she was 7, when she started singing and performing. The first song she technically ever sang was “Day-Oh (The Banana Boat Song)” by Harry Belafonte when she was 2, but no one wants to count their first step towards stardom in diapers and a plastic guitar. Since her childhood, singing songs and expressing herself on stage was Trishna’s way of “writing in a journal and telling stories and parts of myself in every song I sang”.

She also started writing poems and songs at a very young age, weaving her thoughts into stories that could one day be put to melodies. She has branched out since then, performing in front of many different crowds. “From the beginning I have been inspired by a range of genres and challenged myself to learn innovative and new styles of singing.” Now Trishna sings all types of music, from hip-hop and pop to classical and modern Hindi music to rock, R&B and the list goes on. She has been trained in Western classical and Hindustani classical music. Trishna can also speak English, Spanish,Hindi, and Tulu, and she can sing in those languages, as well as German, Italian, and Irish.

A music major at Drew University, Trishna has sung in the Pan-African Choir and the women’s a capella group, which has performed on both the East and West coasts.

Trishna has performed for parades in New York City and festivals all over the East Coast. She has also performed at various private parties, radio stations, and charity functions, throughout her childhood, and continues to do so.

“Music is an important outlet in my life. It allows me to be myself and to become comfortable in my own skin. The stage feels like my home; it’s where I can let loose and express emotions through my performance. It’s my safe haven. I am so lucky and privileged to pursue this as my career, where I can entertain people and explore stories and feelings through music and enjoy every bit of it. The stage and I, we’re like bread and butter, like peanut butter and jelly, like Batman and his Batmobile. I believe that music connects people in a way that nothing else can, and that power, to me, is beautiful and should be cherished”

Trishna has recently made a very important step in my career and recorded her debut album! Entitled Icebreaker, it is a multilingual Hindi and English album and explores themes of independence, love, and female empowerment. “It was an amazing experience being involved in writing the lyrics and the entire creation process of my songs. My goal was to make an album that can reach people on a personal level of all ages while having fun, and I hope that you find some meaning from it, no matter who you are. It mixes a huge range of styles, drawing on folk music, Rock, Hip hop, Rap , R&B, Hindustani classical and pop music. It layers all of these styles in instrumentation and vocal technique, shifting from vocal styles of each genre to create diverse flavors”.

“Icebreaker” is an amazing journey in exploring the possibilities of combining styles from all over the world to illustrate power house anthems of fun and independence while opening a softer side of Trishna at times with her acoustic and ballad numbers.

In addition to completing her album, she has completed shooting a music video for her upcoming single “Icebreaker” that is soon to be released. She is currently active in projects involving her album and performing, moving forward and never stopping!

My Review: Let me start by saying since I only have one track to review and pictures speak louder than words, I have only included the video version of Icebreaker. Icebreaker, the single, is a snappy reggae style, Hip-Hop dance number. The snare drum gives it sort of a militaristic march sound. Very different and very catchy.

Trishna’s vocals are certainly unique. From a sort of “vibrato warble”, which takes some getting used to, to a sexy whisper and everywhere in between I feel she shows a lot of creative vocal styling.

All in all I enjoyed Icebreaker a lot, my only regret, as usual, is the fact I only have one track to review.

I’m going to rate Trishna a 9 out of 10 stars and a “thumbs up”! Its really hard to judge an artist on only one track!
